Religious Discrimination

You belong a faith community. You are practicing your religion or you grew up in the tradition of that religion. You tell us that you are being treated differently by your employer, just because the employer does not like your religion. You do your job as well or better than the next employee, but you are being paid a lower salary and denied promotions. Since your employer is treating you unfairly because of your religion, you are entitled to the protection of Federal, New York State and New York City discrimination laws which prohibit discrimination based on religion.

You tell us that you have asked for reasonable breaks in the day for religious practices or for time off for holy days, and have explained to the employer how you will continue to perform the essential functions of your job. But your employer says that your reasonable requests will not be accommodated. This is against the law. You are entitled to a reasonable accommodation for your religious practices, so long as you are being reasonable about the accommodation that you request under Federal, New York State and New York City discrimination laws which prohibit discrimination based on religion.

Sometimes you tell us that you are subjected to a hostile environment based on your religion. People are making hurtful comments about your religion, or they use code words. But you and the harasser know what they mean. You don't have to spell it out when you want to insult someone because of their religion. A hostile environment based on religious discrimination is illegal under Federal Law, New York State Law, and New York City Law.

In our more than 25 years of experience, we have been helped many employees subjected to religious discrimination and to a hostile environment based on religious discrimination, and we will be your lawyer for negotiations or a court suit in New York State Courts or New York City so that injustice is stopped.
