Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

You call us and you want to go right to court. We tell you that you cannot always do that. Employment law claims for discrimination or retaliation under Title VII or the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) or the American with Disabilities  Act (ADA) must first be filed with the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC). You will file a charge with the EEOC, and they will investigate your claim. After the investigation, they may give you a right to sue. This is a document that you will need before you go to court. In some cases, the EEOC may even give you a written opinion that they think you have a good claim.

Contact us online or call us at (212) 949-1001 if you are considering filing a charge with the EEOC about a New York State or New York City employer, or have received a right to sue, so that we can review options for filing a complaint in court.
